After months of hard work and waiting, the harvesting of ripe paddy is underway. Farmers are now very busy in the fields. Paddy harvesting, threshing and storage are underway. Boro paddy has already started growing in the barns of many farmers. In most places in rural towns, farmers are busy cutting, threshing, winnowing, steaming and drying the straw used as cow fodder from morning till evening. The season of threshing and threshing of Boro paddy has begun in different areas of every upazila of Rajbari district. The farmers of this district, which is located on the banks of the Padma River, are now busy threshing and threshing paddy. The scenes of smiling farmers threshing and threshing paddy are going on across the fields. Which has brought vitality to the rural areas.Farmers said that the weather was favorable and the rice was not submerged in the monsoon water, which has resulted in a bumper harvest of Boro rice in various upazilas of the district. The harvest was good due to timely rain, favorable weather and proper care.
Farmers say they are expecting good profits this time because costs are relatively low and rice prices are good in the market.Local farmer Md. Habibur Sardar said, this time the rice yield has been quite good. We have got a good yield by cultivating at low cost. If the market price is right, then this rice will bring prosperity to our family. He also said, there is no need to cultivate the land to cultivate Boro rice. If Boro rice seedlings are planted after the monsoon water has gone, this rice cultivation is finished. Therefore, Boro rice is very profitable. However, if the weather is not favorable, the entire rice is wasted.Khabir Molla, a farmer from Ujanchar Union in Goalando Upazila, said, "I have cultivated Boro rice on 5 bighas of land this time. Initially, there was some problem with the seedbed due to dense fog. However, with the advice of the local agricultural office, I was able to overcome that problem. Alhamdulillah, there has been a good harvest."At that time, a female farmer named Kulsum Akhtar said, Rajbari district is affected by river erosion. Every year, a lot of arable land in this district goes into the river. However, Boro rice can be cultivated every year across the Padma River and in the emerging char areas. This time, there has been a bumper harvest of Boro rice in every area of the district. I hope to make a lot of profit as the cost is low.A farmer named Badrul Shesh said, "This time I have cultivated Boro rice on 50 bighas of land. The rice has also been very good." He said, "We have come together as a group of 4 and have cultivated Boro rice. I hope that this time we will get good profits from rice cultivation."
According to the Rajbari Agricultural Extension Department, this time Boro rice has been cultivated on about 5,000 hectares of land in the district, which is 30 percent more than last year. Farmers in Rajbari district have now started taking rice from the field to their homes. Many local farmers say that the land cultivated with Boro rice remains submerged in the river bed for most of the year. It can be cultivated once a year at most. Even then, it is submerged in the monsoon water for many years. They believe that raising Boro rice at home is a matter of luck. They say that although the cost is low, the risk in Boro rice is high. That is why farmers are not interested in cultivating Boro rice.
Rajbari Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam said, Boro rice is mainly grown across rivers and in char areas. Boro rice does not have to be cultivated on land. Boro rice seedlings have to be planted after the monsoon water dries up. Therefore, cultivation of this rice can be very profitable.
