The Detective Branch (South) of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) has arrested a man for allegedly masquerading as a police officer, defrauding citizens, and trading stolen goods recently.

The arrestee, identified as Md. Rubel Kha, 28, originally from Jhenaidah Sadar, was apprehended from his rented residence in the South Khailkur area under Gacha Police Station in Gazipur. During the drive, detectives recovered an extensive cache of law enforcement gear, forged documents, and stolen electronics from his possession.

GMP sources said that acting on a tip-off, a special team led by Sub-Inspector Md. Harisur Rahman conducted a raid at a house on Pearabagan Road on Tuesday. After detaining Rubel, a thorough search of his room yielded three stolen motorcycles, five laptops, three printers, four keyboards, and a walkie-talkie set.

Detectives also found a complete set of police uniforms, including a field cap, shoulder lights, a pistol holster, tactical belts, boots, and handcuffs. To facilitate his fraudulent activities, Rubel allegedly maintained a fake Special Branch (SB) identity card, counterfeited BRTA seals, forged e-registration cards, fake tax tokens, and visiting cards identifying himself as "SI Rubel Kha." A set of motorcycle master keys, nine SIM cards, and a fake ID card of an online news portal were also seized.

According to the police, Rubel had been posing as a Police Sub-Inspector for a long time to deceive unsuspecting people, create forged legal documents using fake government seals, and run a racket dealing in stolen vehicles and electronic appliances.

Following his arrest and subsequent confession, police conducted follow-up raids in Gazipur and Tangail Sadar to recover the stolen motorcycles.

A case was filed against him at Gacha Police Station on charges of impersonating a public servant, forgery, and possession of stolen property.
