Fake NSI officer arrested in Sylhet
Sylhet Bureau
Police have arrested a neo-Muslim impostor who posed as a field constable of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
The arrestee is Titon Bimwas (neo-Muslim) alias Arafat Hossain. He is the son of late Sadhan Biswas and Sushama Biswas of Raypara, Tahirpur upazila headquarters in Sunamganj.
On Friday, after a case was filed, he was sent to Sunamganj District Jail through the court.
The case was filed by Abu Kawchar, son of Ruhul Amin of Godigaon in Sunamganj Sadar upazila, accusing Titon, his associate Amina Begum of Maizbari village in Sunamganj Sadar upazila, and her son Jewel.
In the case, the plaintiff alleged threats in the guise of a government official and embezzlement of Tk 1.5 lakh.
Earlier on Thursday night, acting on a tip-off, Tahirpur police arrested Titon Biswas alias neo-Muslim Arafat Hossain from the Tahirpur–Anwarpur road.
It may be mentioned that before converting in 2023, his name was Titon Biswas alias Tito of Raypara, Tahirpur upazila headquarters. His father’s name was late Sadhan Biswas and his mother’s name was Sushama Biswas.
While changing his name through the notary public during conversion, neo-Muslim Arafat Hossain fraudulently replaced his parents’ names with Majmil Ali (fake father) and Amina Begum (fake mother).
Later, the unemployed neo-Muslim Arafat, with the help of computer graphics designers, created a fake NSI field constable ID card with his photograph and used it for fraudulent activities. Using the same tactic, he trapped a girl from a disadvantaged family in Godigaon village of Sunamganj Sadar upazila and married her.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) of Sunamganj District Police Zakir Hossain confirmed the case filing and said that operations are underway to arrest the other two fugitives.
