Extortionist and fraudster have been arrested near Padma Bridge area in Munshiganj in Coast Guard drive 

Coast Guard Media officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-ur-Rashid confirmed the information on Monday. 

Based on secret intelligence, it was learned that on Thursday, 12 June 2025, three individuals—local residents Alamin Sarkar, Mithu Mia, and Al-Amin Mia—detained a truck at the Padma Bridge adjacent weight scale area in Louhjong, Munshiganj, posing as members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard and demanded extortion money. When the patrol team of the Padma Bridge authority arrived at the scene, the accused fled with the mobile phone of the truck’s lineman. It has also been revealed that this fraudulent group had long been extorting money using the name of the Coast Guard and was involved in leaking information about Coast Guard movements and activities to smugglers.

Following the incident, on Sunday, 15 June 2025, at 8:00 AM, the Bangladesh Coast Guard Composite Station Padma conducted a special operation and arrested Alamin Sarkar (28), one of the members of the extortionist group. During preliminary interrogation, the detainee confessed to the aforementioned incident and disclosed the names of the other two individuals involved.

The arrested member of the extortionist group is a permanent resident of Kandipara area under Padma (North) Police Station in Munshiganj District.

Subsequently, the arrested person was handed over to the police for legal action, and a regular case was filed at Padma North Police Station against him and the two other fraudsters.

To maintain the country's law and order, the Bangladesh Coast Guard continues to conduct 24-hour patrols. As a result, the law and order situation in coastal and riverine areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard has improved significantly, including the prevention of smuggling. The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to curb smuggling.
