Staff Correspondent

Shah Alam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, has escaped from police custody after being arrested in connection with multiple cases, including a murder charge.

The incident occurred on Thursday while he was being prepared for presentation before the court in relation to a case involving the anti-discrimination student movement.

Uttara East Police Station Duty Officer, Sub-Inspector Abdul Karim, said he heard about the escape but declined to provide further details.

According to sources from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Shah Alam was arrested outside Dhaka on Wednesday night.

He was facing several charges, including a murder case filed on September 2.

Shah Alam, who had taken charge as OC of Uttara East Police Station on August 1, 2024, managed to escape using a pre-planned strategy, as confirmed by a DMP official.

Following his escape, the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) on duty at the time was suspended for negligence, although his name has not been disclosed.

As of Thursday night, the police had yet to locate Shah Alam. Efforts to recapture him are ongoing, according to officials.
