Dhaka Sub-Editors Council Iftar Mahfil held

The Iftar mahfil of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC), one of the largest organization of professional journalists working in Dhaka, was held on Thursday.

About 500 members of the organization were present in addition to distinguished people of various classes and professions, political figures, former president and general secretary of DSEC.

Iftar mahfil was held at Jatiya Press Club auditorium on Thursday evening.

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary of the Interim Government's Chief Adviser, was present as the chief guest at the Iftar party. In the speech of the chief guest, he claimed to be a sub-editor and said, "My first experience in journalism is as a sub-editor." He said, sub-editors are the most deprived.

Stating that sub-editors are the most discriminated in terms of salary, Shafiqul Alam said that the media will not give journalists a respectable salary and allowance, those media are no longer needed.

Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumdar, Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director M Abdullah, PIB DG Farooq Wasif, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, DUJ President Shahidul Islam, General Secretary Khorshed Alam, Desh Rupantor Editor Kamal Uddin Sabuj, Dainik Uttar Dakshin Editor Sheikh Farooq Ahmad, Popular Life Insurance MD and CEO BM Yusuf Ali were also present.

The event was presided over by the president of the organization Muktadir Anik and moderated by General Secretary Jawahar Iqbal Khan.
