Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Dhaka Farida Khanom emphasized that the fight against dengue must begin at home and within immediate living surroundings rather than relying on hospital care.

Speaking as the chair at an awareness discussion and cleanliness drive organized by the Dhaka District Administration at Shamsul Haq Khan School and College in Demra, Dhaka, on Saturday.

Farida Khanom stressed that dengue prevention requires proactive civic responsibility alongside government efforts.

The program was attended by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman Miah as the chief guest, alongside Reserved Women's Seat-2 MP Shirin Sultana and Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Azmul Haq as special guests.

Addressing the gathering, Divisional Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman Miah stated that public awareness and community participation are essential to curb vector-borne diseases. He urged residents to prevent stagnant water accumulation around residential units to eliminate potential breeding sites for Aedes mosquitoes.

DC Farida Khanom highlighted that rooftops, balconies, flowerpots, and discarded containers frequently serve as breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. She urged citizens, educational institutions, and local representatives to dedicate time daily to inspect and clear standing water from their premises.

She further noted that single-day sanitation drives are insufficient to eradicate dengue, calling for cleanliness to be integrated into daily routines. Farida Khanom urged families to act as the primary defense against mosquito infestation and encouraged students to spread prevention awareness among peers, family members, and neighbors.

The discussion was attended by faculty, students, district administration officials, guests, and media representatives. Following the discussion meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2026, participants conducted a joint cleanliness drive in the areas surrounding the college campus.
