Commemoration of eminent poet, journalist Sheikh Shamsul Haque on his 1st death anniv: Demand for posthumous honour from Bangla Academy

Eminent poet and journalist Sheikh Shamsul Haque was remembered with profound respect and affection in Faridpur. Marking the first death anniversary of this gentle-hearted literary figure who grew up in the waters and breeze of Bhubaneshwar, Faridpur Shahitya Parishad organized a discussion meeting and poetry recitation session at Shahitya Bhaban on Friday evening.
Presided over by Prof Md. Altaf Hossain, President of Faridpur Shahitya Parishad, the memorial meeting was attended by poets, literary figures, and journalists arriving from Dhaka and various other parts of the country. Speakers reminisced about poet Sheikh Shamsul Haque, highlighting various aspects of his life and colorful literary works.
During the memorial meeting, speakers raised a strong demand to commemorate poet Sheikh Shamsul Haque's contributions to literary practice, stating that such a secluded and renowned poet deserves to be awarded a posthumous honor by the Bangla Academy. In an emotionally charged environment, speakers recalled numerous memory-laden moments and past stories connected to his life.
Central leaders of various literary organizations, including the "Anuprash National Poet Organization," delivered speeches during the event. The roster of speakers featured veteran educator and researcher Prof M. A. Samad, Dainik Fatehbad Editor Professor ABM Sattar, poet and engineer Fariduzzaman, Dr. Md. Imanul Haque Azad, poet Hasnain Sajjadi, poet and lyricist Animesh Baral, poet and lyricist Yunus Farsi, senior journalist and essayist Mofiz Imam Milon, poet Rina Talukdar, folk researcher Khalilullah Dil Daraz, former Principal of Faridpur Medical College Dr. Khabirul Islam, and Dainik Samakal reporter Hasanuzzaman.
During the second segment of the memorial meeting, prominent poets and elocutionists of the country recited poems written by Sheikh Shamsul Haque. Recitations were performed by poets Afia Ruby, Muhammad Moniruzzaman, Jesmin Dipap, Kabir Humayun, Giasuddin Chasha, Sheikh Nazrul Islam, Runa Layla, Professor Dr. Mostafa Dulal, H. M. Shakhawat Hossain, Nazmun Nahar Parveen (Naz), Nipa Chowdhury, Zenunnesa Mina, Kazi Hemayet Hossain, Mamunul Islam, Ismat Ara, and Niyaz Raihan Sagar.
Besides , elocutionists, poets, and journalists who arrived from India—including Abdul Kaiyum, Professor Jesmin Bonya, Professor Mohammad Abdul Wadud, Zarif Jawad Ohi, and Wajiha Ahnaf Shweta—brought the event to life through their remarkable elocution and poetry recitation. The entire gathering transformed into a confluence of local literary enthusiasts and cultural activists in Faridpur.
