Coast Guard seized 160 sacks of urea fertilizer bound for Myanmar in Bhola

Bhola Correspondent

In a drive against maritime smuggling, Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel seized 160 sacks of urea fertilizer being illegally trafficked to Myanmar along with a steel-bodied trawler in the Meghna River under Bhola district.

Providing details on Sunday morning,  Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated that the operation was carried out at around 3:00 PM on Saturday by a team from Coast Guard Station Tajumuddin, acting on a tip-off.

The drive was conducted in the waters adjacent to Muktijoddha Bazar under Tajumuddin Police Station in Bhola Sadar Upazila. During the raid, Coast Guard personnel intercepted and searched a suspicious steel-bodied trawler, recovering 160 sacks containing 8,000 kilograms of urea fertilizer valued at approximately Tk 2.40 lakh, which was intended for smuggling into Myanmar.

The smugglers managed to flee the scene upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard team; consequently, no arrests were made during the operation.

Legal procedures regarding the seized fertilizer and the impounded trawler have been taken.
