Coast Guard detains illegal venison trader with 30-kg of meat in Sundarbans

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained an illegal meat trader along with 30 kilograms of illegal deer meat (venison) from the Nalian area of the Sundarbans.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard said this in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Outpost Nalian on Monday at around 2:00 PM near the Nalian Closer Para area under Dakop upazila, Khulna. During the raid, authorities apprehended a meat trader with 30 kg of illegal venison with an estimated market value of approximately BDT 66,000.

The seized venison and the detained individual were subsequently handed over to the Nalian Forest Patrol Outpost for further legal action.

The Coast Guard reaffirmed that its anti-poaching operations to curb wildlife killing and trafficking in the region will continue with strict vigilance.
