City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman passes away

Renowned businessman and City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman has passed away. He was 77.
He breathed his last at 4am on Monday at United Hospital in the capital. He was suffering from respiratory illness.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gendaria Dhupkhola playgrounds after Asr prayers on Monday, according to his family sources.
He is survived by his wife, one son, and three daughters.
On February 6, 1972, City Group began its journey as a mustard oil producer. After the success of the first venture, City Group started investing in new areas. At this time, mainly investments are made in production, industry and trading.
In the early ‘90s, City Group undertook more projects and initiatives. Currently, there are more than 40 companies in the industrial group, employing about 25,000 people. The annual turnover of the company is about Tk25,000 crore.
Apart from the domestic market, various products, including flour and oil, are exported to the USA, China, Japan, Malaysia, India, Cambodia, and Nepal.
Meanwhile, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his family have expressed deep shock at the demise of City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman.
In a condolence message, the Bashundhara Group chairman said, "We express our profound grief and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. We pray for the salvation of the departed soul."
He also stated that Fazlur Rahman has made a significant contribution to the industrial and commercial development of Bangladesh.
"As a successful industrialist, his contribution to the economic progress of the country will be remembered by all. His dedication and commitment throughout his life will remembered forever," he added.
