An accused rapist named Habil Mia (52) was killed in a mob beating in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, in the case of raping a 6-year-old child.
The incident took place at around 12 am on Saturday in Palupara village of Katabari union of Gobindaganj upazila.
Locals said that on Friday afternoon, Habil Mia, son of the deceased Kashem Ali of Palupara village of Katabari union of the upazila, lured a 6-year-old child from the same village, brought him to his house when no one was there, forcibly raped him and fled.
Later, the child's family came to know about the matter and admitted him to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex and filed a police report in this regard. The raped child is currently undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, locals got angry and arrested the rapist Habil Mia and thrashed him. He was seriously injured. On receiving the information, Gobindaganj Police Station went to the spot and rescued the injured Habil from there and admitted him to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased Habil, Zarina Begum, said that if he had committed any crime, then he will be tried - but I want a fair trial for killing him like this before the trial.
Gobindaganj Police Station OC Bulbul Islam said, Habil's body has been recovered and sent to Gaibandha District Hospital for autopsy. Zarina Begum, the wife of the deceased Habil, has filed a murder case accusing 8 people in the incident.
