A cabinet committee meeting was held on Wednesday at the Secretariat to review and finalize the draft of the 'Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026'.

The meeting, held in the conference room of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, focused on updating the legislative framework to address evolving digital challenges.

Faqir Mahbub Anam, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, as well as Science and Technology, and convener of the committee, presided over the session. The committee members held detailed discussions on various clauses of the draft bill, focusing on adapting to rapid technological advancements, strengthening national cyber defense, protecting citizens' fundamental rights, and securing the country's digital ecosystem.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on necessary amendments and recommendations to ensure the law remains highly relevant in the current tech landscape. The committee put forward several recommendations aimed at making the draft act more modern, realistic, and effective. A decision was also taken to hold another meeting in the near future to integrate these recommendations and finalize the draft before placing it for formal approval.

The high-level meeting was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Swapan; Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman; State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury; and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam.

Rehan Asif Asad, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Science and Technology (holding State Minister rank), along with senior secretaries and top officials from the relevant ministries and security agencies, participated in the review session.
