Businessman’s body recovered from jute field two days after disappearance in Faridpur

Mahbub Pial, Faridpur

The body of Yusuf Fakir (45), a prominent businessman from Momin Khar Hat in Char-Madhabdia Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila, was recovered from a jute field two days after he went missing.

Locals discovered the body on Saturday morning in a jute field adjacent to Momin Khar Hat, noting that the victim's hands and feet were tied. He was rushed to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead. Yusuf Fakir was the son of the late Sahir Uddin and a well-known trader in the Momin Khar Hat area.

According to family members and local sources, Yusuf went missing on Thursday afternoon, July 16, after getting off an auto-rickshaw in front of his home near the Momin Khar Hat school grounds. Despite extensive searches by his family, he could not be located.

On Saturday morning, a local farmer named Mojibor Sikdar found Yusuf lying unconscious while working in his jute field. Family members, with the help of locals, immediately transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The family stated that on Friday, an unidentified person called the victim's elder brother, Giasuddin, and demanded a ransom of 30,000 BDT. Although the family agreed to the payment, they were unable to make further contact with the caller.

Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue for an autopsy. Md. Mahamudul Hasan, OC of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident.
