BSF pushed 20 people into Bangladesh at Lalmonirhat border, locals claim over 50
Sabbir Hossain, Hatibandha (Lalmonirhat)
The Indian border force (BSF) pushed at least 20 people into Bangladesh at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat at 3 AM on Tuesday. Among those pushed back were 11 women, 7 children, and 2 men. They were handed over to the police after being held by the BGB.
Locals say the real number is higher — at least 50 people were pushed back in two groups. Some ran away before getting caught.
The detained people said they were held in India for 20–25 days and then brought to the border and forced to cross.
This is not the first time such a pushback has happened. In 2024 alone, 17 Bangladeshis were killed by BSF near the border.
Human rights groups are calling for stronger monitoring and talks with India to stop such acts.
