A broom procession was held in protest against various irregularities in the renewal of BNP members, recruitment of new members and formation of ward committees at the union level in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha.
On Wednesday afternoon, the protest procession started from the DW Government Degree College ground in Sundarganj and ended at the DW Government Degree College after circling the main roads of the municipality. Hundreds of leaders and activists from different unions in the upazila participated in it. During this, the leaders and activists held festoons and banners in their hands and shouted slogans. The district president kept shouting slogans like 'Sadiker dalalra, hoshiar savdhan', 'Sadiker dui gale, juta maro tale tale', 'Babuler dui gale, juta maro tale tale', Mahmudul's dui gale, juta maro tale tale'. And an effigy with a picture of District BNP President Mainul Hasan Sadiq was burnt and beaten with shoes.
Later, speakers at the protest rally there raised various allegations of irregularities in the formation of ward committees. The speakers complained that the district committee president and general secretary decided to give 2 hours each to form ward committees of 15 unions and municipalities for renewal and recruitment. But various irregularities were committed in recruitment and formation of committees. Basically, the BNP leader in charge of the union and the convener and member secretary of the upazila BNP formed the committees in collusion.
They also said that already, no rules were followed in the renewal of 100 members and recruitment of 100 new members at the ward level of various wards of Sundarganj Municipality and Kapasia, Chaparhati, Sonaraya, Bamandanga, Ramjiban, Belka and Sarbananda unions of the upazila. The ID cards of the people nominated by themselves were collected and they were nominated as ward members.
However, those who have been nominated were not involved in BNP politics in the past, and many of them were even involved with other political parties including the fascist Awami and Jatiya Party. District BNP President Dr. Mainul Hasan Sadiq, Upazila BNP Convener Babul Ahmed, Member Secretary Mahmudul Islam Pramanik, and Sundarganj Municipality BNP Convener Ikhtiar Uddin Bhuiyan Nipon and Member Secretary Mizanur Rahman Lipu, who were involved in the formation of the committee through irregularities, demanded organizational measures including the removal.
District BNP Vice President and Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Mozharul Islam, Advisor MA Malek, Member and Kanchibari Union Parishad Chairman Monowar Alam Sarkar, Upazila BNP former Organizing Secretary Nazmul Huda, BNP leader Arefin Aziz Sardar Sintu, Municipal BNP Joint Convener Nahmudul Haque Russell and Milu spoke at the protest rally.
