Staff Correspondent
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said that the struggle for environmental protection is not confined to policies or programs—it is a responsibility to future generations.
She said that only through collective efforts can a green and sustainable Bangladesh be achieved. For this, citizens, government, and the private sector must work together.
Rizwana Hasan made the remarks on Saturday evening while addressing as Chief Guest at the “Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024” ceremony organised by BRAC Bank and Torupallab this evening at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy.
She said that people’s continued contributions have always played a vital role in protecting Bangladesh’s nature and environment and will continue to do so. Citing examples of government initiatives such as sal forest restoration, protection of elephant corridors, and the “Zero Soil” campaign, she added, “Dhaka today is greener than before. Rooftop gardens are now visible in almost every house. People love greenery—this emotional bond with nature will never be broken.”
The event was presided over by Mokarram Hossain, general secretary of Torupallab.
This year, four people were honoured with the “Dwijen Sharma Environment Award 2024” for their remarkable contributions to environmental conservation.
The “Tree Friends” honors were awarded to Md. Aminul Islam of Jhenaidah, the Sonapahar Project of Mirsarai, and Sabuj Chakma of Rangamati.
In addition, the “Biodiversity Award” was conferred upon Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, a life member of Bangla Academy.
