Refusing to beg or depend on charity after losing her husband, Helena Begum chose to grip the handlebars of a rickshaw to support her three fatherless daughters. Battling scorching heat and heavy rains daily, her determination to earn an honest living recently caught the attention of Barishal Sadar UNO Mst. Farida Sultana, who stepped forward with essential humanitarian support.
On Tuesday (August 19), UNO Farida Sultana invited Helena to her office to honor her resilience and address her immediate working challenges. Recognizing the hardship of navigating flooded roads during the monsoon, the UNO presented Helena with a durable raincoat. To ensure her safety and facilitate seamless daily communication, she was also gifted a button mobile phone, alongside a supply of high-quality dry food items for her family.
For Helena, who operates in constant financial uncertainty, the raincoat serves as a vital safeguard against seasonal harshness, enabling her to maintain her daily income without compromising her health. The accompanying mobile device and food provisions offer immediate relief to her household.
Local residents and community leaders have praised the administration's compassionate gesture. Community members noted that UNO Farida Sultana’s proactive initiative sets a powerful precedent, inspiring affluent individuals and local authorities to support marginalized individuals striving for self-reliance. Expressing deep gratitude, citizens hope such targeted administrative empathy continues to uplift hardworking individuals across the region.
