In Patharghata, Barguna district, a serious allegation has found  that Jamaat’s municipal Ameer and worker, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, was brutally attacked and seriously injured with a machete during a verbal altercation between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir leaders. The accused in this case are Chhatra Dal leader Amit Hachan Shuvo and his associates. 

After being left unconscious, Nasir Uddin was rescued and initially treated at Patharghata Health Complex before being referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal due to deteriorating condition.

The incident occurred at 9 pm on Thursday on the northern end of Iman Ali Road in Patharghata town. Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mehedi Hasan confirmed the event. Due to tensions in the town following the incident, police and naval forces have been deployed for maintaining law and order.

The injured, Nasir Uddin, is the son of Shahabuddin of Patharghata municipality and the father of Mizanur Rahman, General Secretary of Patharghata Chhatra Shibir’s municipal branch.

A case has been filed at Patharghata Police Station. The accused include former Chhatra Dal Upazila Member Secretary Arafat Rahman Abhi, former municipal Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Amit Hachan Shuvo, former college Chhatra Dal convener Munim, Alamim Baizid, Mahbub, Jihad Khan, Bashar, and Shaon. It is also noted that Amit Hachan Shuvo previously attacked Patharghata Upazila Press Club.

According to Chhatra Shibir’s municipal General Secretary Mizanur Rahman and case details, supporters of Amit Hachan Shuvo accused Chhatra Shibir members of harassment with false allegations, leading to heated arguments. The police intervened and took them to the station. Later, several individuals displayed weapons and attacked the pharmacy of Jamaat’s municipal Ameer Md. Bazlur Rahman. During this, prominent local poultry businessman and Jamaat worker Nasir Uddin was seriously injured.

Responding to the allegations, former Chhatra Dal municipal Office Secretary Amit Hachan Shuvo claimed innocence, stating that he was falsely implicated and that he himself was attacked the same night, possibly due to political rivalry.

Maulana Masudul Alam, Upazila Jamaat Ameer, confirmed that Jamaat workers Bazlur Rahman and Nasir Uddin were attacked and that Nasir Uddin is currently on his deathbed. He demanded exemplary punishment for the attackers and confirmed that a police case has been filed.

Patharghata municipal BNP Member Secretary Ismail Sikdar informed journalists that a clash occurred between Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal members in the municipal town. They were trying to mediate at the police station but are unaware who attacked the Jamaat worker.

OC Mehedi Hasan said,  a case has been filed and efforts are underway to arrest the accused. Due to rising tensions, police and naval patrols have been intensified in the area.
