
Ancient Vishnu Idol weighing 165- kg recovered in Savar, one Arrested

Police in Savar, Dhaka district recovered an ancient black stone Vishnu idol weighing 165 kilograms during a special operation. One person, identified as Md. Delwar Hossain (61), has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The operation was conducted around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Hemayetpur Bus Stand area of Savar Upazila. The arrestee, Delwar Hossain, is a resident of Goalmari area under Daudkandi Police Station in Cumilla district, and had been living in a rented house near Khalek Pump in Darussalam, Dhaka.
Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) for Savar Circle, Shahinur Kabir, said that police carried out the operation based on a tip-off. Under the leadership of SI Amir Hossain from the Tannery Police Outpost, officers arrested Delwar Hossain from beneath the foot-over bridge at Hemayetpur Bus Stand.
At the time of arrest, police recovered a black stone Vishnu idol valued at approximately Tk 1.2 crore (12 million) from his possession.
ASP Shahinur Kabir further stated that the recovered idol appears to be highly valuable and of significant antiquity, possibly holding cultural and historical importance. A case has been filed under the Special Powers Act, and the accused has been sent to court.
According to local sources, an idol smuggling ring had been active in the area for some time. Locals believe that this police operation will deliver a major blow to their illegal activities.
