In a dramatic move, an Awami League leader from Munshiganj’s Sadar upazila, Ali Hossain Mridha (48), announced his retirement from politics after bathing in rose water. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the local area. On Saturday around 1:00 PM, he performed the act in the courtyard of his home in Churain village under Bajrayogini Union, in front of local residents.
Ali Hossain Mridha is the General Secretary of the Awami League’s Ward No. 8 unit in Bajrayogini Union and a former member of the Union Parishad. Professionally, he runs a decorator business.
After his symbolic bath, Mridha told reporters that he joined politics in 2016 and was elected as the general secretary of the ward Awami League. He later served as a Union Parishad member. Now, he has decided to step away from politics.
Mridha stated, “I realized things after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year through the student and public movement. While many fled the area, I remained in my village. I was never involved in any irregularities or controversies. From now on, I want to focus solely on my business—no more politics.”
Commenting on the matter, Bajrayogini Union’s Panel Chairman Emran Hossain said, “Ali Hossain Mridha was previously involved in Awami League politics. Now, he no longer wants to continue and wishes to concentrate on his business.”
