A court in Dhaka on Friday placed Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mashiur Rahman on a seven-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain passed the order as the police produced Mashiur before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.
The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mashiur Rahman from the city's airport area on Thursday night.
Abdul Wadud was killed in police firing in front of New Market Gate No 1 on 19 July.
His relative Abdur Rahman filed the case with New Market police station on 21 August against 130 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
