In a joint operation led by the Cyber Unit of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and local police stations, a total of 84 mobile phones—stolen, snatched, or lost at different times—have been recovered and handed back to their rightful owners.
RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian officially returned the recovered phones to the owners at a formal event held at the RMP headquarters in the city on Wednesday.
Members of the RMP Cyber Crime Unit stated that the investigation began based on general diaries (GDs) and complaints lodged at various police stations across the city. Using advanced technology, the locations of the phones were traced, leading to successful recovery operations.
Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufiyan said, “We are committed to utilizing technology to both control crime and return lost possessions to the public. We are doing our utmost so that people continue to have trust in the police.”
He further advised, “If a phone is lost, citizens should immediately file a GD at the nearest police station and keep a record of the phone’s IMEI number to facilitate recovery.”
Many recipients expressed gratitude after receiving their phones. One victim said, “I never thought I’d get my phone back. Thanks to RMP and the Cyber Unit.”
The event was attended by senior RMP officials, members of the cyber unit, and grateful citizens who had recovered their phones.
