61 BNP leaders, activists acquitted in Sylhet

61 BNP leaders and activists have been acquitted of political harassment cases after the fall of the Awami League government.

Leaders and activists of Beanibazar BNP and allied organizations have been acquitted in a case filed under the Special Powers Act in 2015.

The Additional District Judge of Sylhet Court Judge acquitted them from the Special Powers Act case on Monday.

Beanibazar Upazila BNP General Secretary Sarwar Hossain confirmed this information. He said that in 2015, SI Aminul Islam of Beanibazar Police Station filed a case under the Special Powers Act as the plaintiff. SI Zahirul Islam Khan, the investigating officer, quickly filed the charge sheet in the case. He also said that all the accused in the case were arrested.

Sylhet District BNP Vice President Nazmul Hossain Putul, Children's Affairs Secretary Siddik Ahmed, Upazila BNP General Secretary Sarwar Hossain, former Joint Secretary Saifur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Nazrul Khan, Publicity Secretary Fayez Ahmed, District Jubo Dal leader Abul Kalam, Municipal Jubo Dal leader Jane Alam, Chhatra Dal leader Nur Uddin and 61 other leaders and activists expressed gratitude for being acquitted in the case.

RAB distributes sports equipment among madrasa students in Sylhet

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 has distributed sports equipment among students in various madrasas and orphanages in Sylhet Sadar and Dakshin Surma Upazilas in the Sylhet district.

Keeping in mind the theme of ‘Manush Manush Yonn’, on Monday (January 6), RAB distributed sports equipment such as cricket bats, balls, stamps, gloves, footballs, badminton rackets, nets and feathers among students of Jamia Islamia Baraya in Dakshin Surma, Miftahul Quran Madrasa and Orphanage in Muktirachak in Sylhet Sadar Upazila and Jamiatul Ulumil Islamia Madrasa in the same area.

The distribution programme was inaugurated by RAB-9 Commander Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman. RAB-9 officials from various levels were present the programme.

Media Officer Senior ASP Mashihur Rahman Sohel said that RAB-9's humanitarian activities will continue in the future.

Red Crescent Society South Surma Govt College Youth Unit distributes winter clothes

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Youth Unit South Surma Government College Unit has distributed winter clothes. The winter clothes were distributed among the office assistants of the college on Monday.

The winter clothes distribution ceremony was presided over by the college principal Iftekhar Alam. In his speech, Principal Iftekhar Alam said, distributing winter clothes among the cold-stricken people is a great work. In winter, helpless people live in hardship as they cannot buy winter clothes.

Special guests at the event were Assistant Professor Matiur Rahman of the Department of Mathematics, Head and Assistant Professor Rahena Haque of the Department of Philosophy, recently retired Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Economics Rawnak Jahan, Head and Assistant Professor Salma Yasmin of the Department of Political Science, Head of the Department of Islamic History Ataur Rahman, Head of the Department of Bengali Palash Ranjan Das, Head of the Department of Erezi Subhash Chandra Saha, Head of the Department of Sociology Zainul Islam, Head of the Department of Accounting Moynul Haque, Head of the Department of Management Fatema Khanam and Md. Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan.
