5-year-old child hospitalized after sexual assault in Tahirpur, suspect at large

A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted after being enticed with biscuits at Rahmatpur village under Badaghat Union in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was initially rushed to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex before being transferred late Thursday night to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Sunamganj District Sadar Model Hospital due to excessive bleeding, where she remains under medical care in stable condition.
According to the victim's uncle, the child was playing on a road near her house following Asr prayers when a neighbor, Lakib Mia, son of Aziz Mia, coaxed her into an abandoned house on the pretext of buying her biscuits. Lakib allegedly locked the door and committed the assault. Hearing the child's screams, family members rushed toward the site, prompting Lakib to flee the scene. The family subsequently notified the local police station regarding the incident.
Tahirpur Police Station OC Farooq Ahmed confirmed the incident, stating that police operations are actively underway to arrest the absconding suspect and bring him to justice.
