120 sacks of govt rice seized in Ghoraghat, trader held

Police seized 120 sacks of rice allocated under the government's food-friendly program during a drive at Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district on Monday.
Law enforcers also arrested a local trader, identified as Nurul Islam (70), in connection with the illegal hoarding.
Nurul Islam, son of the late Rahim Uddin Mondal, hails from Kalupara village under Bulakipur Union in Ghoraghat upazila.
According to police sources, Nurul Islam purchased 120 sacks of rice—weighing 30 kg each—meant for distribution under the state-subsidized food assistance program from in front of the Bulakipur Union Parishad premises on Monday. He subsequently stockpiled the government-allocated grain inside a warehouse at his private residence.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Ghoraghat Police Station conducted a raid on his residential warehouse, recovered the full consignment of rice, and took the seized inventory into police custody. Nurul Islam was detained from the scene during the operation.
