A 12-foot-long snake, initially mistaken by locals for a mythical "dragon," was rescued from the Boalkhali Fire Service Station area on Wednesday, causing a stir among pedestrians in Ward-4 of Boalkhali Municipality.

The snake was spotted around 12pm while it was crossing the road, reportedly emerging from a nearby canal. Onlookers, startled by its massive size, gathered around and some even attempted to harm it out of fear.

Amir Hossain Shaon, a member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh, rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and successfully rescued the snake from the crowd.

“I believe it floated through the canal and ended up near the fire service station. It weighs about 17 kilograms and is around 12 feet long,” said Shaon. He confirmed that the Forest Department was informed and has taken custody of the reptile.

Earlier the same evening, around 8pm, locals in Ward-1 of Sripur-Kharandwip Union reported spotting a smaller, 4-foot-long snake at the house of one Mantu Saudagar. That snake was also later recovered by Forest Department officials.

Authorities urged residents to remain calm and contact wildlife services in case of such sightings, instead of taking matters into their own hands.
