The newly constructed ‘Julai Shahid Smriti Bhaban’ for Dhaka University students’ accommodation was inaugurated on Saturday.

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan formally inaugurated the building as the chief guest.

Hall Provost Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inauguration ceremony, while the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed and Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were present as special guests. Among others, the hall’s resident teacher Dr. Saiful Haque spoke at the ceremony. The principals of various halls, deans of various faculties and the resident teachers of the hall, officials and students were present at the event.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed his heartfelt thanks to all those involved in the implementation of this construction project. He said that the university administration is working very sincerely to resolve the housing crisis of students on a priority basis.

He expressed hope that the housing crisis of students will be resolved to some extent through the inauguration of this building with modern facilities. Paying deep respect to the memory of those who sacrificed themselves in various struggles including the July Uprising, he said that we must remember their debt. To preserve the memory of the martyrs, this newly constructed building has been named 'July Shahid Smriti Bhaban'.

It is mentioned that the 11-storey 'July Shahid Smriti Bhaban' of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has accommodation arrangements for 1,08 students in 252 rooms.
