Woman dies due to wrong treatment : Settlement in exchange of money in Sirajdikhan

 Munshiganj (South) Correspondent:

A housewife named Naznin Akhter (24) has reportedly died due to a botched surgery at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj.

On Monday morning, the victim’s relatives attempted to vandalize the hospital in protest, but police arrived and brought the situation under control. Later, a settlement was reached with the hospital authorities promising compensation of 1 million BDT (approximately $9,000 USD). The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Bosumoti General Hospital and Diagnostic Center in Nimtola, Keyain Union of the upazila.

According to sources, Naznin Akhter, wife of Delowar Hossain from Moddha Hasara village of Srinagar upazila, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning due to gallbladder complications. The surgery was performed around 3 PM under the supervision of Dr. Hasan Julkar and anesthesiologist Md. Saiful Islam. During the operation, Naznin's condition worsened, and she was rushed to Delta Hospital in Dholai Par, Dhaka, where doctors declared her dead.

Following the incident, the victim’s relatives and an angry mob surrounded the hospital director Md. Fazlur Rahman and attempted to vandalize the hospital. Later, the matter was settled between the victim’s family and the hospital authorities in exchange for financial compensation.

Naznin Akhter’s uncle, Shaheen Sheikh, said, “Since the accident has already occurred, further trouble won't help. But she has an eight-month-old baby. Thinking about the child's future, we agreed on a settlement for 1 million BDT.”

Md. Fazlur Rahman, director of Bosumoti General Hospital & Diagnostic Center, said, “We have resolved the matter with the victim’s family. As Naznin Akhter has an eight-month-old child, we are providing a financial amount for the child’s support.”

Sirajdikhan Upazila Health Officer Dr. Jamshed Faridi said, “We are aware of the matter. A three-member investigation committee will be formed, and further actions will be taken based on the committee’s report.”

Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahed Al Mamun said, “Upon receiving news of potential unrest following the patient’s death, police intervened to control the situation. No formal complaint has been filed yet. If a complaint is received, appropriate actions will be taken.”
