Bangladesh's leading businessman, industrialist, entrepreneur and Chairman of Matador Group  Alhaj Advocate Md. Shah Alam, is playing a major role in the social development of the country.

Although he is known as a wealthy businessman, he is actually a renowned lawyer.

He founded the Matador Group, which employs about 4,000 workers, and has earned a reputation for paying salaries and allowances on time.

Having entered the business world with Matador Pen in 1980, he has worked tirelessly to turn Matador Group of Industries into a well-established industrial enterprise in the country.

Under this group, there are numerous companies in the stationery, personal care products, plastic products, entertainment and healthcare sectors. In short, he has achieved unprecedented success in business.

In Old Dhaka, he is known as a talented son named Shah Alam Ukil.

He is widely known in Old Dhaka for providing legal services and financial assistance to the poor and needy in the area. However, he was averse to publicity when it came to donations and stayed away from the media or news media.

In an interview with the English daily The Country Today recently , he said, "To my knowledge, I have not wished anything bad except the well-being of the locals and my relatives. I am trying to do something good for the locals as much as I can. What I could not do, my children will do, that is what I pray to God."

"All of you will pray for me and my children." Advocate Shah Alam, chairman of Matador, is respected everywhere in the Hazaribagh and Lalbagh areas as the oldest man in the area.

He built the Rafiqul Islam Molla Madrasa and Mosque Complex at a cost of several crores of taka. He built the Hazaribagh Burhanpur Jama Mosque in Saudi style, whose architectural style impressed everyone.

Besides , he has donated to the best of his ability to Kazirbagh Mosque and Madrasa, Azim Uddin Huzur Orphanage, Matador Staff Quarter Mosque, Chandpur Hajiganj Joy Sara Chowdhury Bari Mosque-Madrasa and Orphanage.

He has personally provided financial assistance for the construction of numerous mosques and madrasas in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka.

In addition to a mosque built in Habiganj district, he has made financial donations to hundreds of madrasas, orphanages and mosques across Bangladesh. Among the many works of his life, he considers the most important work to be providing an opportunity for the poor to perform the holy Hajj. In addition, he provides financial assistance to the children of officials and employees and scholarships to meritorious students. In addition, he has established Matador Hospital in the area.

Regarding his stance on the mass uprising of students and the public on August 5, he said, "I am a lawyer and businessman. I do not directly support any party, and neither do my children. I have continued to struggle for life as usual since the beginning of my career. So I am trying to raise my children as human beings. Everything I have done for the people is visible, so how should I evaluate myself? The locals and media workers will evaluate me."

One of his sons is a professor and chairman of the Law Department of Dhaka University.

His other son, Md. Jahangir Alam, has been serving as the president of the school and mosque in the area.

The boys are engaged in social service like him.

They always stand by the poor, the suffering, and the hardworking people in all aspects, including financially supporting parents who are in debt to their daughters.

It is the hope of the Muslim Ummah that in every corner of Bangladesh, people like the philanthropist Shah Alam will be born and work dedicatedly for the welfare of the country and the people.
