Police have arrested Waliullah, a teacher at Al-Qarim Darul Ulum Azadi Madrasa, in connection with the rape of an 11-year-old student in Bhuapur, Tangail. The victim is also a student at the same madrasa.
The arrest was made on Thursday night in the Yamuna Bridge area. Prior to this, on Wednesday night, the victim’s father filed a case at the Bhunapur Police Station. The arrested teacher, Waliullah, hails from Pabna.
It is learnt that Waliullah, a teacher at Al-Qarim Darul Ulum Azadi Madrasa in the upazila, would frequently sexually abuse the child student by calling her to his room at night. He threatened to beat her if she told anyone about the incidents.
Out of fear, the child eventually confided in her parents. When the matter was brought to the attention of the madrasa authorities, Waliullah admitted to the allegations. He was subsequently sacked. An attempt was made to hush up the incident through mediation, and pressure was put on the victim’s family not to seek legal recourse.
However, when the incident came to light, it was reported in various electronic and print media. A storm erupted on social media.
UNO Abu Abdullah Khan, stood by the victim’s family and provided reassurance, leading to the victim’s father filing a case on Wednesday night. Subsequently, Bhunapur Police arrested the teacher Waliullah on Thursday night.
Regarding the matter, Bhuapur Police Station OC AKM Rezaul Karim said, after the victim’s father filed the case on Wednesday night, the police were able to arrest Waliullah within 24 hours. Necessary legal actions are underway in connection with the incident.
