Police foil Hizb ut-Tahrir’s procession in Dhaka
Staff Correspondent
The police foiled the programme of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir in Dhaka’s Baitul Mukarram Mosque area on Friday afternoon.
Earlier, the outfit announced to hold a rally titled “March for Khilafah” in the area after Jumma prayers, prompting police to come up with a warning that they would consider all kinds of activities of the outfit as a punishable offence.
However, amid the heightened security, Hizb ut-Tahrir members brought out a procession from Paltan and marched towards Bijaynagar, while police personnel tear-gassed and used sound grenades to disperse them.
The law enforcers chased and baton-charged the outfit’s members as they attempted to gather again to bring out a procession.
Some 10-15 operatives of the banned outfit were detained.
