A police constable named Ainul Haque has been accused of kidnapping and raping an HSC examinee.
He was arrested on Tuesday morning from the Dharmapasha Thana building under the Sunamganj District Police of the Sylhet Range. Ainul, who was serving as a constable at Dharmapasha Thana under the Sunamganj District Police of the Sylhet Range, is the son of Nur Uddin from Dubhag village, Islam pur, Purba Jaflong Union, Gowainghat Upazila, Sylhet, and is married.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dharmapasha Circle Officer Ali Farid Ahmed and the OC of Dharmapasha Thana, Mohammad Enamul Haque, confirmed Ainul’s arrest in connection with a kidnapping and rape case.
According to the case filed at Dharmapasha Thana and information from the family of the victim, an HSC examinee (college student), Ainul, while serving as a constable at Dharmapasha Thana, developed a romantic relationship over the past year with a fatherless college student from a Hindu family living in a nearby neighborhood. The two exchanged conversations, photos, and video footage through social media platforms like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp as part of their romantic relationship. On June 26, after the HSC Bangla First Paper exam at a college in a neighboring district of Sunamganj, Ainul asked the college student over the phone to meet him at the Mahadipur Speedboat Ghat in Dharmapasha, under the pretext of going for an outing. When she arrived at the ghat, Ainul took her to Sunamganj town by speedboat in the afternoon, claiming they were going for a recreational trip.
They checked into Omar Residential Hotel in Sunamganj town around 8 PM that night. Subsequently, under the false promise of marriage, Ainul forcibly raped the college student multiple times throughout the night in the hotel room.
The following day, Friday (June 27), he continued to rape the fatherless college student several more times until noon, just before leaving the hotel room. After 12 PM that day, Ainul, accompanied by the college student, visited various branches of the Sunamganj District Police and delivered court summons before returning to Dharmapasha with her. The college student informed her family and the Dharmapasha Thana police about the incident of kidnapping and rape carried out under the guise of a romantic relationship. Demanding marriage due to the violation of her dignity, she staged a sit-in at the Dharmapasha Thana building from Monday morning.
When Constable Ainul refused to marry her, the college student filed a written complaint against him at the thana on Monday night. The complaint was registered as a kidnapping and rape case that night, and Dharmapasha Thana police arrested Constable Ainul from the thana building in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
