Pangsha :Collapse of alternative road beside under-construction bridge causing sufferings to people

People of several unions have been suffering after the alternative road beside under-construction bridge collapsed due to the flow of water in Pangsha, Rajbari.
On Friday afternoon, the alternative road of the under-construction bridge collapsed in the Bhartidanga intersection area of Sarisha union of the upazila. This has cut off communication with Pangsha town from the people of the southern part of the upazila. This has caused extreme inconvenience to the people of several unions of the southern part. The UNO and Upazila Engineer have assured a quick solution to the issue.
According to local sources, the construction of a bridge began in 2022. The work was supposed to be completed in 2024. But due to the slow pace of work, it has not been completed yet. As the construction of the bridge is ongoing, an alternative road has been made for traffic.
The road often breaks due to the flow of water. As a result, people from Sarisha, Patta and Kasbamajail unions of the upazila and Sawrail union of Kalukhali upazila have to suffer while traveling to Pangsha town. In addition, ordinary people travel to Jhenaidah, Magura and Jessore districts via this road after crossing Naduria Ghat. They are demanding that the work on the under-construction bridge be completed quickly as the road collapsed yesterday.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) S.M Abu Darda said, as soon as I came to know about the matter, I informed the Upazila Engineer and instructed him to take immediate action. I hope there will be a solution soon.
Upazila LGED Engineer Khowazur Rahman said, the work was supposed to be completed in 2024. The construction work has been delayed due to the design and contractor complications of the bridge. However, we are working on the matter. By today, the alternative road will be renovated and arrangements will be made for easy bike, van and motorcycle travel. Arrangements will be made to allow vehicles to pass over the bridge within the next week.
