Memo submitted demanding ban on killing trees on both sides of road in Boalkhali
Boalkhali (Ctg) Correspondent
On the initiative of Boalkhali's creative son Biplob Tarkeshwar Dastidar Smriti Parishad, a memorandum was submitted to Boalkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Rahmat Ullah at 11 am on Wednesday demanding a ban on killing trees on both sides of the road.
General Secretary of the Parishad, Engineer Sinchan Bhowmik, was present at the time.
The memorandum states that due to the global climate situation, everyone from humans to wildlife, birds, and marine fish are extremely helpless today. Bangladesh is at the top of the list of countries most affected by climate change. In such a heartbreaking situation, some money-hungry people are making money by killing trees on both sides of the road. Some people in our country believe that by planting tree saplings on both sides of the road with permission from the local chairman, money can be earned by selling the trees after 15 to 20 years.
This is a serious harm to the environment, a criminal and hateful act. This is a legally punishable offense. Anyone can plant tree saplings. To kill a tree, permission must be obtained from the Forest Department, then from the Department of Environment, then from the local administration.
