Khondaker Rashed Maksud,  Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), whose knowledge and competence in stock market matters have been questioned, is currently abroad for training. However, the interim government is recalling him to the country amid his training. He is being brought back to attend a meeting led by the Chief Adviser on May 11, addressing the ongoing downturn in the country’s stock market.

On Sunday (May 11), the Chief Adviser will hold a meeting on “Capital Market Development and Strengthening.” The meeting will include the Finance Adviser, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, and the BSEC Chairman. It will take place at the Chief Adviser’s official residence, Yamuna.

Rashed Maksud is currently in the United States for training. Although this training is intended for junior BSEC officers, Khondaker Rashed Maksud, the BSEC Chairman, has attended it, creating a sense of amusement in the stock market.

In the history of the stock market, officers of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), particularly those up to the rank of top directors, have traveled to various countries for training programs. It is rare for executive directors to participate in such training, yet the BSEC Chairman, Khondaker Rashed Maksud, has attended.

Multiple CEOs of top brokerage houses and market stakeholders told Arthosongbad that Rashed Maksud needs training, as he has significant gaps in his knowledge of the stock market.

It is mentioned that the “31st International Institute for Securities Market Growth and Development” program, organized for officers of securities and exchange commissions worldwide, is being held. Hosted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, it is scheduled from May 5 to May 9 in Washington, D.C., USA. 

 

The BSEC was also invited to participate in this event. However, instead of BSEC officers, the chairman of the regulatory body attended. Additionally, he was scheduled to travel to Qatar from May 12 to 15 to participate in the IOSCO 50th Annual Meeting. However, the government is recalling him to the country before that.
