Five women honoured on International Rural Women’s Day in Shyamnagar

 On the occasion of International Rural Women’s Day, five rural women were honored in recognition of their achievements in agriculture, fisheries and other fields. In Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira, a discussion and an awards ceremony were held on the school grounds of Kathalbaria AGI Secondary School, organized by Nakshikantha with the support of Badaban Sangha, to mark International Rural Women’s Day and present awards to five rural women. On Sunday afternoon,  the programme  attended largely by rural women  was chaired by Nakshikantha Director Chandrika Banerjee.
 
 Guests who spoke were  Upazila Assistant Youth Development Officer Md. Janirul Islam, teacher Ranjit Kumar Barman, and women’s development worker Nazmun Nahar Shiuli of the Upazila Women Affairs Office. Remarks were also made by honorees Sabina Rani, Laxmi Rani Mondal, Maharani Mondal, Saira, and Parbati Mondal, as well as Nakshikantha field workers Shipra Roy and Taslima Khatun, and computer instructor Hasan Reza, among others. Speakers said that rural women contribute in every sector. The day is observed each year on 15 October to recognize rural women’s contributions to society and the economy and to affirm their rights. 
 
Awards were presented in recognition of specific successes: Sabina Parvin for success in fish farming; Maharani Mondal for success in tailoring; Parbati Rani for success in small business; widow Saira for success in poultry farming; and Laxmi Rani Mondal for success in producing organic fertilizer.
