The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims was celebrated with solemnity across Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district on Monday.

It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid-al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, many people from different places came to their village homes to celebrate the festival with their near endear ones.

The stage was almost set for smooth holding of Eid prayers in the town of Gouripur and elsewhere. The main Eid congregation  was held at Khelar Mathh Eidgah Maidan near the Gouripur Stadium around 9:30 am and  the second largest congregation in the town  was held at Islamabad Madrasha's playing ground at 9.00 am being looked after by Gouripur Pourashava. A large number of devotees joined the Eid prayers and prayed for divine blessing for the peace, prosperity and stability of the country.

However, on Sunday morning about three hundred Muslims who are followers to the Sureswar Darbar Sharif at Shariatpur, celebrated their holy Eid-ul-Fitr under the leadership of Pir Syed Shahnur Abtab Parvez Nuri at the branch of Sureswar Darbar Sharif, Nur Mahal, at the village of Bahadurpur of Gouripur upazila.
