
DP World CEO meets Chief Adviser

Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem called on Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus at State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Wednesday. During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of strategic investment in Bangladesh's port and logistics infrastructure sector.
In their previous talks held in Davos, the DP World chief expressed interest to invest in New Mooring Container Terminal in Chattogram. The proposed investment aims to reduce congestion at Chittagong Port, reduce carbon emissions and significantly increase the efficiency of Bangladesh's main maritime inlets.
Chief Adviser Professor Yunus said, "This (Bangladesh) is a potential country. Come to Bangladesh and let's realize its potential. ’
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem reiterated his company's commitment, saying: "We are looking forward to this partnership." Your prosperity means our prosperity. From Chittagong to Dubai, Africa – this is our joint dream. ’
The chief adviser sought greater cooperation from the DP World in Bangladesh's flourishing sectors like fisheries, agro-processing and halal meat export. At the same time, he put emphasis on skill development of Bangladeshi workers.
Professor Yunus said, "Our responsibility is to provide proper training to the staff and we will ensure that it is implemented. ’
The DP World chief responded positively and said the UAE authorities are working on visa facilitation and overall support for skilled workers from Bangladesh.
He also said that after the success of the trade mart of China and India, there is a plan to launch 'Bangladesh Mart' in their own country.
"We want to introduce Bangladeshi products including wood, marble and agricultural products to the world," she said.
"We are working to solve the visa problem of ordinary Bangladeshis and we hope it will be resolved soon," said Lutfe Siddique, special envoy of the chief adviser, who was present at the meeting. ’
The meeting was informed that two UAE companies have recently recruited around 500 Bangladeshi workers.
DP World, a leading global logistics company based in Dubai, is well-known for its port development, maritime services, logistics, and technology-driven trade facilities.
Lamia Morshed, Chief Coordinator of SDG Affairs of the Chief Adviser's Office, was also present at the meeting.
