
Death toll in US raid on Hodeida rises to 8

Yemen's Houthi rebels said on Wednesday that the death toll from a US airstrike on the port city of Hodeida had risen to eight. AFP reported from Hodeida.The Houthi's al-Masirah TV station, citing the health ministry, said the number of martyrs in the US invasion of Hodeida had risen to eight and 16 wounded. The operation to remove the debris is underway.Houthi media said the attack targeted a residential area in the Red Sea port city on Tuesday night. An AFP journalist heard three explosions.Health ministry spokesman Anis al-Asbahi said four children and two women were killed in the airstrikes.Earlier, Iran-backed Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked US and Israeli ships passing through the Red Sea in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Yemen's rebel-held areas have been under near-daily attacks since Washington began airstrikes against the Houthis on March 15.The United States has launched a new operation after the Houthis threatened to attack the ship again in the wake of Israeli brutality in Gaza.The key route has been paralyzed by fears of a Houthi attack on ships passing through the Red Sea. About 12 percent of the world's ships travel on this route. Most of the ships plying this route are now forced to make long journeys through the edge of South Africa.
