A clash broke out during BNP’s New Year celebratory procession in Munshiganj, leaving several people injured.

The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Monday, the first day of the Bengali New Year, in the Supermarket area of Munshiganj town.

Two injured individuals, Shubho (28) and Shimon (20), received treatment at the hospital. Dr. Ataur Karim of the emergency department at Munshiganj General Hospital confirmed the injuries.

According to local sources, the district BNP organized a procession from the old bus stand in town at around 12:00 PM on Monday to mark the New Year. The event was attended by top district BNP leaders and more than a thousand activists. Around 12:30 PM, as the procession reached the Supermarket area, an argument and commotion broke out among some activists over a trivial matter. This quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Several people were injured in the scuffle. The situation was later brought under control with the intervention of other activists.

Regarding the incident, District BNP Member Secretary Mahiuddin Ahmed said, “I was at the front of the procession. I didn’t see who created the disturbance at the back. My activists later brought the situation under control. This may have happened due to a verbal dispute among a few individuals. We are looking into the matter and taking steps accordingly.”

Munshiganj Sadar Police Station OC Saiful Alam stated, “We received reports of a minor disturbance over a trivial issue. However, they resolved it among themselves. No formal complaints have been lodged. We are still looking into the matter.”
