Barishal University has secured the 23rd position among Bangladesh’s leading institutions in the 2025 Nature Index ranking, based on the quality and quantity of research.
Globally, Barishal University stands at 6,666th. In terms of academic ranking, it holds the 20th position in Bangladesh and 3,142nd globally.
This ranking was compiled based on research data from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025. Compared to previous years, Bangladesh’s position this year is satisfactory. In South Asia, Bangladesh has surpassed Nepal and Sri Lanka, securing a position just below Malaysia. Bangladesh ranks 59th globally, with China holding the top spot.
The Nature Index ranking is determined by the contribution to research quality and the number of research articles published in internationally recognized journals.
In Bangladesh, the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) tops the list. Barisal University, a beacon of the southern region, has risen to the 23rd position. In subject-specific research, Barisal University ranks 10th in Chemistry and 5th in Soil and Environmental Sciences, with global positions of 2,854th and 2,060th, respectively.
