Throughout the month of July, the three hill districts of Khagrachari, Rangamati, and Bandarban in the Chittagong Hill Tracts witnessed the celebration of the “July Awakening, July Mass Uprising, and Youth Festival 2025.”
The initiative aimed to instill historical consciousness among the youth, promote the culture and harmony of the hill region, and engage young people through sports.
A month-long football tournament was held in Bandarban as part of the celebrations, attracting players from various areas of the district. The tournament sparked tremendous enthusiasm and excitement among local youth. More than just a competition, the event transformed into a vibrant youth festival—a confluence of sports, culture, and social unity.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador (Retd.) Supradeep Chakma, Adviser on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and adviser to the festival organizers, remarked that the July Mass Uprising was a landmark in the Bengali nation’s struggle for identity, justice, and democracy. The martyrdom of those who fell during the uprising will forever inspire the nation. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the goodwill football matches held across the three hill districts to commemorate the July Awakening and Mass Uprising.
The final match of the tournament concluded with the prize-giving ceremony, where both the champion and runner-up teams were awarded. The event was graced by Professor Thanzama Lusai, Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council.
The month-long celebration also saw active participation from the local administration and security forces. Notable attendees included the Region Commander of the Sadar Region, the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, and other government officials. Their involvement conveyed a strong message of peace, harmony, and development in the hill region.
