"Ex-Ctg MP Fazle Karim faces one-day probe in July uprising case"

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Tuesday allowed the prosecution to interrogate former Chattogram-6 MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury for a day in a case over crimes against humanity during the July uprising in Chattogram.

He will be interrogated by the prosecution on April 16.A three-member tribunal headed by ICT Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar passed the order, said Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam.Though the defendant’s lawyer submitted a petition for bail citing his illness, the court rejected it and sent April 20 for hearing the petition.In the same case, Jubo League activist of Chattogram city unit Md Firoz was produced before the tribunal while he was shown arrested in the case.The chief prosecutor said nine people were killed and 459 others were injured in Chattogram during the July uprising.

He said evidence suggests the involvement of more accused in the case, and efforts are ongoing to identify them.

The court granted an additional three months for investigation and the next hearing was scheduled for July 7, Tajul said.
