Youth sentenced to death for killing brother-in-law in N'ganj

A court in Narayanganj has sentenced a young man to death for the murder of his wife’s elder brother in Fatullah, a locality under Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. He has also been fined two lakh taka. The verdict was delivered by District and Sessions Judge Md. Abu Shamim Azad on Monday in the presence of the accused.
The convict is Al Amin (28), son of Jalil Mia of Char Kashipur in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. The deceased was Hashem Molla, son of Nur Hossain from the same area and the elder brother of Al Amin’s wife.
Inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan of Narayanganj Court Police said Al Amin was married to Pushpa Akhter, Hashem Molla’s younger sister. The couple had three sons. Since the marriage, Al Amin frequently abused Pushpa Akhter, leading to multiple community arbitrations.
He further stated that on the night of July 26, 2022, Al Amin assaulted his wife. When her brother Hashem Molla intervened, Al Amin, in a fit of rage, stabbed him in the chest, causing serious injuries. Hashem later died while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Fatullah Police Station. Upon completion of the trial, the court pronounced the verdict.
