Yarn Merchants’ Assoc election : 15 candidates likely to win uncontested

In the Bangladesh Yarn Merchants Association's 2025–2027 executive council election, 15 candidates, including current president M. Solaiman from the General Group, are on the way to being elected unopposed. However, the Associate Group will see voting as 8 candidates are competing for 6 posts.
On Saturday (May 10), Tazul Islam, a candidate from the General Group, withdrew his nomination due to his daughter’s illness, which requires treatment abroad. He was a candidate from President M. Solaiman’s panel.
Initially, 16 candidates had submitted nominations from the General Group — 15 from M. Solaiman’s panel and 1 independent candidate. In the Associate Group, 6 candidates from Mahfuzur Rahman’s panel and 2 independents submitted their nominations.
After the withdrawal of nomination, the following 15 candidates from the General Group are set to be elected unopposed:
- Solaiman, Mostafa Emranul Haque Munna, Sanjit Roy, Md. Mojibur Rahman, Sirajul Haque Hawlader Siraj, Md. Akbar Hossain, Md. Akram, Gautam Saha, Md. Taij Uddin Ahmed, Md. Zobaer Alam Jholok, Md. Saidur Rahman, Abdullah Al Hossain Bappi, Majharul Islam Joseph, Md. Mahmudul Hossain Lincoln Khan, and Md. Billal Hossain.
The candidates in the Associate Group are: Mohammad Musa, Md. Mojibur Rahman, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Khan Mahfuz, Md. Zahid Hossain, Jibon Saha, Md. Faisal Ahmed Dolon, Md. Kamrul Hasan, and Md. Khairul Kabir. Six executive council members will be elected from this group.
According to the election schedule, the executive council election will be held on May 24. A total of 721 voters from the General Group and 162 voters from the Associate Group will cast their votes.
The Election Board is chaired by Mr. Prabir Kumar Saha, with members Md. Habib Ibrahim and Barrister Mehedi Hasan (Deputy Attorney General of Bangladesh). The Election Appeal Board is chaired by Muhammad Aiyub, with members Md. Nisharuddin Kamal and Md. Mokbul Hossain.
