A widow was subjected to torture when she came to claim her husband's right to house with her child in her lap at Gafargaon in Mymensingh.

The widow faced the obstacle of the children of the first wife as the late husband married more than once. she is living an inhumane life with two daughters. The victim came to Gafargaon police station yesterday afternoon and filed a written complaint.

According to Ruma Akhter, the late Shaheed A. Jabba primary school teacher A. H. M. Asad alias Nayan married Ruma Akhter, daughter of Ahmad Ali of Gangangasram village of Gafargaon upazila in 2007. After marriage he lived with his wife in Zainabazar area under Sreepur police station. Two daughters were born in their married life. On 29 June 2001, teacher AM Asad alias Nayan passed away. He married three times while alive.

Last Sunday and Monday, when she went to husband's house to collect her rights, the problem happened. My husband's first wife Shahnaz Begum (45) and her two children Mojdalifa Fancy (25) and Al Mahdi Hasan (24) abused, beat and chased me away. Later on Tuesday afternoon I filed a complaint at Gafargaon police station.

She further alleged that my orphans have threatened to kill me and my children to deprive them of my husband's pension money and property rights. The last two days they have physically assaulted me. I am in a lot of trouble with two daughters. I want the rights that I and my children deserve.

Local UP Chairman Shahabul Alam said, after the death of teacher Nayan, I sat down with his three wives several times locally. But they are still not able to withdraw the pension as they have not come to a consensus. And there was no solution about the property.

When we spoke to Al Mahdi Hasan about the complaint, he denied the assault and said, "My stepmother wants to live in the old house, but we told her to build a house on the vacant land in my father's VT."

Farooq Ahmed, OC of Gafargaon police station, said, I have received the complaint.

An officer has been dispatched to the scene to investigate. Necessary action will be taken.
