External affairs ministry spokesman of India Randhir Jaiswal has said that the union government of India has the sole authority when it comes to matters of foreign affairs.

In a regular press briefing on Thursday, Jaiswal said, "We have received a protest note from Bangladesh on West Bengal chief minister’s recent comment."

He said New Delhi agreed with Dhaka's protest against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments on recent violence in Bangladesh.

The West Bengal CM had said at a public meeting on 21 July that whoever sought protection in West Bengal, would get necessary humanitarian assistance.

Through diplomatic channels, the Bangladesh foreign ministry protested against the Mamata Banerjee government’s interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh.

He added that under 7th schedule of Indian constitution foreign policy is in exclusive domain of union government. It's under list of job by union not by any state. "

Meanwhile Trinamul congress party spokesperson Subhendu Sekhar Roy said whatever chief minister had said that's keeping in mind humanitarian crisis within Bangladesh. She had no other intentions. BJP is making cheap politics over the comment.

On another question spokesman said whatever is happening in Bangladesh it's their internal affairs. But we hope the situation will come soon to normal. Questions in anti-India slogan raised during the student movement Jaiswal said we have excellent relationship with Bangladesh. It will not affect relationship.

He also thanked Bangladesh government for extending all help for sending back Indians and students through border. "We got excellent cooperation," he added. So far 6300 students came back to India. More than 8500 students are there. Spokesman said whoever I Dian wants to come back they can contact nearby consulate. And India government will take all measures for their safe return.
