Two LGED officials beaten while preventing irregularities in road construction in Sandwip

It has been alleged that two officials of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) were allegedly beaten while preventing irregularities in road construction in Sandwip, Chittagong.
The officials were injured in the beating are Deputy Assistant Engineer Didarul Alam and Assistant Mizanur Rahman.
The victim who was attacked said, in the afternoon of May 12, two LGED officials went to inspect the construction work of Akram Khan Dulal Road in Ward No. 2 of Magadhara Union of Sandwip Upazila. They went and found that although 8 inches were supposed to be poured according to the work order of the road, they were pouring only 6 inches. In addition, low-quality materials were used in the construction materials and the right size was not used in the mixing. As an immediate reaction to this irregularity, they made a sample of 8-inch casting and asked them to work accordingly. Ignoring the sample, they called them to their side and suddenly started hitting and beating them with bricks. Two officials of the LGED were attacked for protesting against the irregularities in the work.
The locals said that the two officials went to the spot and protested against the irregularities on the allegations of using low-quality materials in the construction work. At that time, some workers of the contractor Mosharraf Hossain, who were supervising the work, including (1) Yusuf (2) Saiful, attacked and beat them.
OC of Sandwip Police Station said, they have been informed about the incident and preparations are underway to file a case. He further said, “The culprits will be brought under the law and appropriate punishment will be taken against them.”
They said that they are also preparing to take action against the case on behalf of LGED in this incident.
