Training of 1st Batch of female firefighters held

Home Minister of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal MP, participated in the training inspection and photo session of the first batch of female fire fighters appointed to the Fire Service and Civil Defense, says a press release.

A short programme was organized on the occasion at Fire Service and Civil Defense Training Complex, Mirpur at 11:30 am on Thursday.

Director General of Fire Service Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin, BSP (Bar), NDC, PSC, G, M Phil greeted the Home Minister when he arrived at the venue at 11:30 am.

The special guest of the programme was Secretary of Security Services Department Md. Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury. After that, the director general of the directorate along with the honorable home minister and the secretary of the security service department took the stage.

At this time, a group of smart fire forces under the leadership of DAD Faisalur Rahman gave a guard of honor to the honorable minister. After receiving the greetings, the Hon'ble Minister participated in the photo session with the 1st batch of Firefighters (Women) recruited for the first time in the Fire Service.

After the photo session, the chief guest of the program, Hon'ble Home Minister, in his address to the media workers highlighted the need and importance of recruiting women fire fighters in the fire service like other departments of the government. At that time, the Home Minister said, "Women are carrying out their duties bravely in all fields. Similarly, from now on, women firefighters also have the opportunity to serve the country by devoting themselves to all disasters.

He expressed the hope that this trend of recruitment of female fire fighters will continue in the future as well. Then he answered various questions of the journalists. After that, the Secretary of Security Services Department and Hon'ble Home Minister exchanged greetings with the newly appointed female firefighters and inquired about the ongoing training program.

Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin told the media workers that the name of 'Fireman' was changed to 'Firefighter' under the courtesy instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister. In continuation of this, the process of appointing women workers to this post began. Priyanka Halder, Yasmin Khatun and Nazmun Nahar among the 15 female fire fighters expressed their feelings to the mediapersons at the event.

It should be noted that the recruitment circular for firefighter recruitment was published on June 20 this year. According to the recruitment notification, out of 2,707 applicants for the post of Firefighter (Female), 15 were finally selected for the post of Firefighter (Female) through preliminary screening, physical fitness and medical test, written test and oral examination.

Appointment letter is issued to female firefighters and joined on November 18. Now they are undergoing basic training. Previously, female officers were appointed as officers in the Fire Service, but this is the first time that women have been appointed as fire fighters.
